Pyran Platinum – Premium Fire-Rated Glass Ceramic in Ottawa
Pyran Platinum is the premium transparent glass-ceramic for fire-rated glazing — the largest standard sheet size in the industry, with none of the yellow-brown tint found in other glass-ceramics. Raw Glass Inc is a UL-certified cutting and labeling station for Pyran Platinum, guaranteeing every piece is properly labeled and ready for building code inspection.
What is Pyran®️ Platinum
Pyran Platinum is an award-winning, next-generation fire-rated glass-ceramic manufactured by Schott in Germany, using an advanced float process that produces a high-quality, near-optical-clarity finish. Unlike older glass-ceramics that require corrective grinding and polishing and often carry a yellow-brown tint, Pyran Platinum has a neutral grey / green cast closer to regular glass — making it a strong fit for architectural applications where appearance matters as much as fire performance.
Typical Applications
- Stairwells and corridors requiring larger glazing areas.
- Fire-rated doors, sidelites, and transoms.
- Insulated glazing units for fire-rated exterior applications.
- Projects where optical clarity and appearance are a priority alongside fire rating.

Ratings
Which Variant Do I Need*
- Standard Pyran Platinum – for applications where impact-safety rating isn’t required
- Pyran Platinum F (filmed) – where impact-safety rating is required, at the standard 3/16″ thickness
- Pyran Platinum L (laminated) – where impact-safety rating and sound dampening are both priorities, at a thicker 3/8″ profile
*This is a simplified guide – always confirm the correct variant and rating with your architect, code official, or Raw Glass Inc rep based on your specific application.
Installation & Care
Pyran Platinum must be installed into fire-rated frame and window assemblies carrying the same rating, using classified glazing tape and setting blocks per manufacturer specifications. Lites should be inspected for edge or surface damage before installation. Minor optical imperfections such as bubbles or knots may occur during production and do not affect fire performance or transparency. Clean with a soft, non-abrasive cloth and mild detergent only.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is Pyran Platinum different from other fire-rated glass-ceramics?
Many glass-ceramics have a yellow-brown tint and may require corrective grinding and polishing. Pyran Platinum uses an advanced float process for a near-optical-quality finish with a neutral grey/green tone, plus the largest standard sheet size in the industry.
What’s the difference between Platinum, Platinum F, and Platinum L?
Standard Platinum has no added impact-safety rating. Platinum F adds a surface film for impact-safety rating. Platinum L is laminated for impact-safety rating plus sound dampening, at a thicker profile.
Can Pyran Platinum be used in insulated glass units?
Yes — Pyran Platinum can be used in insulating glazing units (IGUs).
Can I get Pyran Platinum installed, or only supplied?
Raw Glass Inc offers Pyran Platinum as a supply-only option or as a fully installed solution.
